Help Others Learn How To Pronounce Your Name On LinkedIn
When you have a tough name to pronounce, give others in your LinkedIn network a hand and let them know exactly how they can address you when you meet in person or speak over the phone.
LinkedIn offers an audio recording feature for users, giving you the ability to create a recording of your name pronunciation, which will then be clickable on your profile.
Once you add a recording, other members visiting your profile can quickly listen to the recording to better understand your pronunciation preference and ensure they can correctly say your name. You can also listen to other members’ pronunciations by visiting their profiles when they have added a recording.
Remember that being able to pronounce someone's name correctly is an important part of making a good first impression, so take advantage of this innovative feature if it makes sense for you to do so.
At the moment, you can’t record or edit your name pronunciation on the LinkedIn desktop site. It can only be done on the LinkedIn mobile app on iOS and Android devices.
This is how you do it…
On iOS
To record and display your name pronunciation on your profile:
- Tap your profile picture > View Profile.
- Tap the Edit icon from your introduction card.
- Tap Record name pronunciation.
- If you’ve already recorded your name, you can tap the Edit icon to delete or replace the existing recording.
- Tap the recording button and hold to record your name. Note: You can also cancel or preview the recording.
- Tap the Use button when you’re satisfied with your recording. Note: You can also Retake the recording.
- Tap Save.
Your recording will display next to your name in your introduction card.
On Android
To record and display your name pronunciation on your profile:
- Tap your profile picture > View Profile.
- Tap the Edit icon from your introduction card.
- Tap Record name pronunciation.
- If you’ve already recorded your name, you can tap the Edit icon to delete or replace the existing recording.
- Tap the recording button and hold to record your name. Note: You can also cancel or preview the recording.
- Tap the Use button when you’re satisfied with your recording. Note: You can also Retake the recording.
- Tap Save.
Your recording will display next to your name in your introduction card.
We suggest that you limit background noise, speak slowly and pronounce each syllable clearly, and hold the phone around 10 centimetres away from your mouth when speaking. Make sure that the total recording time is within 10 seconds, and you’re done.
